Finding Your Way Around

Every screen in Embernxt HRIS is built the same way. Learn the layout once and you can find anything.

There are three areas: the sidebar down the left, the top bar across the top, and the main area filling the rest.

The Embernxt HRIS dashboard as an administrator sees it, with the navigation sidebar on the left, the top bar across the top, and dashboard content filling the main area

The sidebar is the menu down the left. It is how you get everywhere, and it is the same on every screen.

Items are gathered into labelled groups so that related things sit together:

Group What lives in it
Overview Dashboard and Calendar — your starting points
Workforce Management Employees, Organization Structure, Attendance, Leave Management
Talent & Growth Recruitment, Employee Lifecycle, Performance Management, Training & Development
Finance & Assets Payroll Management, Asset Management
Communications & Content Meetings, Documents & Contracts, Media Library

Some items have a small arrow (›) on the right. That means they contain more items. Click the item and the list expands underneath it; click again to fold it away. Nothing is hidden from you permanently — if you cannot find something, open the groups and look.

The item you are currently on is highlighted in orange, so you always know where you are.

At the top of the sidebar is a Search menu… box. Start typing and the list narrows to matching items.

This is by far the fastest way to get somewhere when you know roughly what it is called but not which group it lives in. Type leave and everything about leave appears at once.

The small icon at the far left of the top bar collapses the sidebar down to narrow icons, giving the main area more room. Click it again to bring the labels back. This is useful on a small screen or when reading a wide table.

The top bar runs across the top of every screen and holds four things:

  • The page name, on the left, telling you which screen you are on. On deeper screens this becomes a trail — for example Dashboard › Leave Management › Leave Applications. Each part of the trail is clickable, so it is a quick way back up.
  • The moon icon, which switches between the normal light appearance and a dark one. See Your Account.
  • The language selector, showing the current language and its flag.
  • Your name and email, at the far right. Click this for your profile and to sign out.

The dashboard is your home screen — the first thing you see after signing in, and always reachable from Overview → Dashboard.

It is a summary, not a place where work gets done. Everything on it is a shortcut to somewhere else. What it shows depends on your role, but an employee’s dashboard typically has:

  • A welcome banner, with today’s date, your assigned shift and its hours, and whether you have clocked in yet
  • Summary cards counting your awards, warnings and complaints
  • Attendance, with the Clock In and Clock Out buttons and today’s times
  • Recent Announcements — company news, with urgent items flagged in red
  • Upcoming Meetings — anything you are expected at, from today onwards

Managers and HR see wider figures instead: headcount, who is absent today, leave waiting for approval, and similar.

Most cards have a View all › link in the corner, which opens the full screen behind that summary.

Overview → Calendar shows a month at a time, with everything that has a date on it in one place — holidays, meetings, leave, interviews, training.

Use the arrows either side of the month name to move between months. Click any entry to open the record behind it.

Most screens follow one pattern, so learning one teaches you the rest. Here is Leave Applications as an example.

The Leave Applications screen, showing the page heading with an Add button, a month selector, a colour legend, a per-employee calendar strip, tabs for pending and rejected leave, filters, and a results table with pagination

Reading down the screen:

  1. The heading and its Add button. The title tells you where you are. The orange button at the top right creates a new record — Add Leave Application here, Add Employee on the Employees screen, and so on.

Most screens follow this. A few of the simpler configuration screens — Review Cycles and Goal Types, for example — instead put an Add form directly on the left of the page, with the list beside it on the right. Same idea, different arrangement: if there is no button in the top-right corner, look for a form on the left before concluding you cannot add anything.

  2. A summary area. Many screens open with a calendar strip, or cards counting the important figures, before the detail.

  3. A legend, where colour carries meaning, telling you what each colour is.

  4. Tabs, splitting the same list by status — here, Pending Leaves and Rejected Leaves.

  5. Search and filters. The search box matches as you type. The dropdowns narrow by employee, type, status and so on. Filters opens more options.

  6. The table. Column headers with small arrows (⇅) can be clicked to sort by that column; click again to reverse it.

  7. The Actions column, at the right of each row, with the things you can do to that record — view, edit, delete. What appears depends on your permissions.

  8. Pagination, at the bottom. It tells you how many results there are, lets you change how many appear per page, and moves between pages.

  • The breadcrumb trail in the top bar takes you up a level.
  • The sidebar always takes you anywhere, from anywhere.
  • Your browser’s back button works normally throughout.
